The origins of linen date back to 8000 BC. when the extremely resistant fiber was used by the Egyptian civilization to cover the mummies of the pharaohs as a sign of homage. Its use was then handed down to the Romans, who used flax, as well as for the manufacture of clothing, as a material for household items. Subsequently in the Renaissance, with the affirmation of a taste for a refined lifestyle, this fiber was confirmed as a symbol of refinement and elegance, and its presence was strengthened in daily life, above all in the production of sheets and shirts. But linen experienced its maximum splendor in Europe between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s thanks to the explorations in Africa and Asia of the great travelers who, dressed entirely in linen, were the fathers of the famous "colonial style". Today linen retains its ancient charm and is a source of inspiration for designers all over the world.
